The bassoon is a fragile and expensive instrument. Care must be taken each time you put the instrument together. If you have difficulty connecting any section together, try adding some cork grease or better yet, see a teacher.
- Open the case. Fill the water container with clean water and start soaking your entire reed while you go to assemble your instrument.
- Inside will be the four main sections: the Boot, Wing, Tenor and Bell Joints.
- Grasp the wood sections of each of the joints gently while not bending any rods or keys during assembly.
- The joints must be gently twisted together not shoved.
- Attach the Wing Joint to the Boot Joint.
- If there is any difficulty in putting any section together, try adding some cork grease or removing some thread or better yet, see your teacher.
- Connect the Tenor Joint to the Boot Joint.
- Connect the Bell to the Tenor Joint.
- Take the Bocal and put it in the bell until you are seated.
