"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." - Plato
Practicing advice.
- Find a place where you can practice and not be disturbed.
- Always practice at a tempo at which you can play accurately.
- Practice in small chunks. One measure or a few notes at a time is excellent.
- Try changing articulation if the slurs or accents get in the way. Eliminate it until you have it down without articulation changes.
- Change the rhythm if it is a passage with technically difficult patterns. Simplify it to eighth notes or quarter notes.
- Use a metronome starting below stated tempo and gradually increasing. Never practice at a tempo that causes mistakes.
- If you are stuck on something, go to something else for a while before returning.
- Organize your practice so that you are working on things that are in need of work. Again, work in small chunks.
- Sing and internalize your parts.
