To get a clear response from the notes at the top bass clef requires the use of a technique called Flicking. It is most needed when slurring to these pitches. Flicking is also referred to as venting or sniping. As you learn the notes from A to D above the staff start to incorporate this technique to get a clear, responsive, non-cracking tone quality from your bassoon. The most concerning note is the 'A' at the top of the bass clef staff.
What is flicking?
It is briefly holding a key for a venting octave key when the one of these notes is first sounded, then releasing. The name can be confusing because it is not meant to be a tap but should be held momentarily. The keys you should use are the A and C left hand thumb keys.

Flicking the Bb, B natural and C
For the next three notes the use of the 'C' Flicking key is necessary. Follow the same steps as above.
